When we examine how much God has given us, we are challenged to give back to him with gratitude and thankfulness. Regular giving points us away from greed and anxiety, and we grow in faithfulness and trust. Throughout the Bible we find God instructing us in generosity, and very often those who take this teaching seriously find that many other aspects of their spiritual life fall into place. It is easy to be frightened that we will miss out by giving money away. Yet Jesus says the opposite is true: "Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap." Luke 6:38. When you decide to give, you are faced with a challenge. Your generosity forces you to trust that God will look after you. As you give the first 10% of your income to God (known as a "tithe"), he promises to care for you. We can trust him because, whilst our generosity is limited, his generosity cannot be measured. Your giving is used by Jesus in the work that this community does. It pays for the pastoral care and discipleship of the church, for our venue and our church centre. It also pays for what we do to reach out to London, and the rest of the world.
